![]() ![]() That seems to be my issue too, though my files are standard mp3, exported from premiere. One known to be optimised and another known not to be. take ownership of folder, files select files from within mp3tag rather than context menu Then used foobar to convert flac to flac and that worked, so can now adjust tags etc. (Edit: As a test I remuxed two MP4s with ffmpeg. ![]() I wonder if that's why ffmpeg re-writes MP4s or of it's just re-writing them to create a tag-free version? One of them may not automatically optimise but I've not used anything other than Mp3Tag in a long time myself. There's a few other bulk tagging programs out there that'll tag MP4s. I'm pretty sure foobar2000 automatically optimises MP4s and the QAAC encoder requires -no-optimize in the command line to prevent it optimising them after encoding, so I suspect it's not a bad idea. This eliminates disk seeks during playback of the file which results in better performance.Īnyone know if Mp3Tag performs the "interleaving" part of MP4 file optimising, given it's primarily designed for tagging audio files? Second, the track samples are interleaved so that the samples for a particular instant in time are colocated within the file. (Frequently it is at the end of the file due to it being constantly modified as track samples are added to an mp4 file.) This optimisation is useful in that in allows the mp4 file to be HTTP streamed. Here are the details: I am able to tag other files just fine I am able to tag this file in Windows Explorer and other programs such as Picard and Foobar2000 The file owner is set to my user The file permissions are set to full control, modify, read&execute, read, and write I have split the file. MP4Optimize reads an existing mp4 file and writes a new version of the file with the two important changes:įirst, the mp4 control information is moved to the beginning of the file. I asked Google what optimising an MP4 does. Writing to Ogg files failed if file couldn’t be edited inplace. Added Open in Mp3tag system service to folders and supported files. and Paste to contextual menu of file list. As best as I can tell Mp3Tag does also automatically optimise an MP4 when deleting tags if it's not already optimised. Temporary files and folders were not always removed if MP4 files cannot be written on external or network drives. After it was done, deleting the tag and creating a new one was very fast, so I guess Mp3Tag only re-writes when necessary, but there appears not to be an option to prevent it from doing so. The first time I added a tag it took around 25 seconds, so it was obviously optimising the MP4 in the process (re-writing it). After updating to ver 3.14, I get an error indicating that the file Im editing 'cannot be opened for writing.' The file is not in use by other applications. And re-saves using the same program I originally created the file in never once created an unreadable file.Where'd your thread at VideoHelp go? I'm sure I didn't dream writing a fairly lengthy reply yesterday, and I'm sure at that stage you said you had Mp3Tag, but hadn't worked out how to use it to batch remove tags from MP4s. I assume that the file had some issues but no other editor that I used seemed to have a problem with the file. Quite a lot of work, but it solved the problem. Without fail, the "cannot be opened for writing" problem disappeared. To solve the problem, I reloaded the file in Audacity and re-saved. Interestingly, most of my vinyl rips were OK but a significant number were not. I would note that the ones it didn't work on were all rips from vinyl using Audacity. This worked for most of my files, but not for a significant number. I discovered that by creating an Action in MP3tag and moving the info from "Album Artist" to "Albumartist", it solved the problem. I had a problem with my server, Serviio, in that it would not read the information in the "Album Artist" field of many of my rips. Why use MP3tag, you are probably asking by now?! For example, Tag&Rename had no issue and neither did the editor built into WinAmp. This was particularly frustrating because other Metadata editors didn't seem to have a problem opening the file and saving the data. I see from a number of posts that others have been having the same issue, but I couldn't find a satisfactory solution in the forums. FIX: message box wasnt displayed if file cannot be opened for writing in some cases. ![]() NEW: command SayOutput and generated output field CurrentUrl at the web source framework. ![]() When I tried to change the metadata on a number of my files, I would get the error message "cannot be opened for writing". CHG: closing of application was possible during copy, move and delete operations. ![]()
